Institute of National Security Studies: The premier think tank on National Security established under the Ministry of Defence, Sri Lanka organized a virtual Closed Door Public Lecture titled “Gaps, Loopholes and Weaknesses in National Security - The Roles of DMRC, ACJU and Wafks Board” on the 08th of September, 2021 from 1400hrs to 1530hrs on Zoom. The Guest Speaker for the event was Prof. Rasheen Bappu, Adjunct Professor, Anthropologist and Intelligence Data Scientist. Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena RWP**, RSP, VSV, USP, nswc, psc, Director (Communications and Publications), INSS chaired and moderated the event. The Institute of National Security Studies (INSS) established under the Ministry of Defence conducted a Round Table Discussion titled “Macroeconomic Impact due to Covid and the way forward for Sri Lanka” on 19 August from 1400 hrs to 1530 hrs Via Zoom.
"Combating the National Security Issues Emanating from Illegal Narcotics Trade in Sri Lanka"
Institute of National Security Studies, the premier think tank on National Security established under the Ministry of Defence organized a Threat Lens titled “Combating the national security issues emanating from illegal narcotics trade in Sri Lanka” which was held on 13th August 2021 from 1000 hrs – 1130 hrs (IST) via zoom. The guest speaker for the event was Dr. Priyangi Amarabandu, Chairperson of the National Dangerous Drugs Control Board. Professor Rohan Gunaratna, Director General of INSS, moderated the event. The participants were welcomed by Mr. Asel Ariyaperuma, Intern (Research), at INSS. Thereafter the Director-General welcomed and introduced the Guest Speaker and opened the floor to a comprehensive dialogue on illegal narcotics trade in the country. The audience was comprised of representatives from international organizations, Ministries, tri forces, intelligence services, and academics.
"Regulating the Digital Educational and Religious Space"
Institute of National Security Studies, the premier think tank on National Security established under the Ministry of Defence Sri Lanka organized a Closed Door Public Lecture titled “Regulating the Digital Educational and Religious Space” which was held on 29th July 2021 from 1400 hrs – 1600 hrs (IST) at the conference hall of INSS. The guest speakers for the event were Professor Rohan Gunaratna, Director General of INSS, Mr. S.H. Harischandra, Secretary, State Ministry of Dhamma Schools, Pirivenas and Bhikkhu Education and Mr. Shabry Haleemdeen, Chairman of Wakfs Board. Rear Admiral Dimuthu Gunawardena, Director (Communication and Publication), INSS moderated the event. He initially welcomed the guest speakers and opened the floor to a comprehensive dialogue on the regulating digital, educational and religious space. The audience was comprised of representatives from Ministries, tri forces, intelligence agencies and academics.

The Director General of Disaster Management Centre (DMC) Maj. Gen. Sudantha Ranasinghe speaking at a public lecture themed ‘Grappling with Floods to Secure Socio-economic Security’ elaborated the initiatives that the DMC has taken to mitigate floods, risk reduction, prevention, and such disaster management while validating his points based on statistics and data.

The Foreign Ministry regrets the adoption of a resolution on Sri Lanka in the European Parliament on 10 June 2021. The resolution entitled “The Situation in Sri Lanka, in particular the arrests under the Prevention of Terrorism Act”, contains factual inaccuracies, and does not take cognizance of the multifaceted progress made by Sri Lanka in reconciliation and development.
