Mrs. Chithrani Gunaratne assumed the office as the Chairperson of Defence Ministry’s Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) today (30).
A simple ceremony to this effect was held at the Ministry giving priority to religious observances.
Respective SVU Chairpersons of Tri-Forces, Police and Civil Defence Force, and Senior Assistant Secretary (Parliamentary Affairs) were also present at the ceremony.
Defence Ministry’s SVU is designed to facilitate military personnel and their families with several welfare measures. Housing, aid to overcome emergency situations and education for 'Ranaviru' children are some of the main concerns.
