Marine Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) Chairperson Darshani Lahandapura said the Attorney General’s Department directed all maritime stakeholders to submit their opinions with regard to the distressed vessel, MT New Diamond, during a meeting today (14).
She said avenues would be sought to claim the expenses incurred to Sri Lankan government to douse the fire.
Lahandapura confirmed there was no risk of oil spill in the Sri Lankan waters so far.
According to Navy Media Spokesman Captain Indika De Silva, currently the ill-fated vessel is kept about 59 nautical miles away from Batticaloa.
