Students hooked on water sports

The Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) had organized a water sports competition for the students and teachers of Tissa Vidyalaya, Trincomalee recently.

Accordingly, the event featured several kayaking competitions under several categories.

A stiff competition was seen at the Pepper Pot Jetty, Trincomalee during the Girls Open, Grade 6-7 and Grade 9-10-11 events. A competition among school teachers was also held during the session.

The competition had been organized as a measure of water sports skills development aiming the younger generation.

The eye-catching competition commenced following two weeks of preparation and training at sea, the SLN said.

The Eastern Naval Commander Rear Admiral Y N Jayarathna presented prizes to the winners during the session.

The SLN’s 4th Fast Attack Flotilla together with the Seamanship School of the Naval & Maritime Academy had organized the competition under the guidance of Rear Admiral Jayarathna.

The Trincomalee Zonal Education Director, the Provincial Education staffers along with the Deputy Area Commander, Commandant of the Naval and Maritime Academy, Commanding Officers, Heads of Departments, Principals, students and teachers were also present at the event.
