President graces Sathviru Abiman War Heroes welfare programme

Multi-million rupee worth incentives presented to War Hero families and serving tri services personnel

A large number of  children, spouses, parents and next of kin of fallen War Heroes, physically-handicapped War Heroes and serving War Heroes of the tri-services were presented with a range of benefits worth millions of rupees during the programme held last evening.

The ceremony commenced with the lighting of the traditional oil lamb by the President Sirisena and followed by the other distinguished guests.

The welcome speech was made by the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, Mr Kapila Waidyaratne PC,  while State Minister of Defence, Hon Ruwan Wijewardene elaborated on the concept and implementation of the project.

Welfare dividends were presented to War Hero beneficiaries under the 'Meth Sevana' Fund for semi-completed houses (National Security Fund), Scholarship Fund for Grade 5 achievers (National Security Fund 278 scholarships , each worth Rs 25,000). Allocation of State Lands through respective tri-service welfare wings (MoD Funds) and land ownership deeds to 84 recipients.

Further financial support for partly completed and new houses was also presented under the 'Api Wenuwen Api' Fund.

 President Sirisena commenced the distribution of benefits by symbolically presenting some welfare benefits to selected beneficiaries.  Subsequently the remainder of the 1262 beneficiaries also received their incentives.

Secretary to State Ministry of Defence, Chief of Defence Staff, tri-service commanders, senior tri forces officers and state officials were also present at the occasion
