Momentum gathers as ‘Udarai Oba’ draws closer

Musical extravaganza on Saturday
The eagerly awaited musical extravaganza ‘Udarai Oba’ will make its premiere at the Nelum Pokuna theatre at 6.30 pm on Saturday (14th September). The show, organized by the Seva Vanitha Unit of the Ministry of Defence will feature a host of top end artistes in the local entertainment scene.

Prominent singers such as T.M. Jayaratne, Victor Ratnayake, Keerthi Pasqual, Sunil Edirisinghe, Sujatha Attanayake, Bathiya Jayakodi, Santhush Weeraman, Deepika Priyadarshini, Danapala Udawatte, Umariya Sinhawangsha, Dammika Walpola, Danusha Dissanayake and Sanka Dineth are scheduled to make appearances while singers and musical bands of the Tri Forces, Police and Civil Defence Department will provide background music.

‘Udarai Oba’ is being held with the aim to raise funds for the establishment of a Vocational Training Centre (VTC) for Tri Forces, Police and Civil Security Department personnel and their family members.

The proposed Vocational Training Centre will provide professional training in Hospitality Management, language and Information Technology.

A number of big names in the corporate world and individual philanthropists have put their weight behind this ambitious project which will be a boon to uplift the living standards of the War Hero families. LOLC Holdings PLC, Sri Lanka Insurance, Hayley’s Advantis Ltd, Laughs Gas PLC, Ceylon Newspapers (Pvt) Ltd, WTS Group and Metropolitan Communications (Pvt) Ltd are some of the corporate sponsors while Mr. Madura Wickramaratne, Mr. Suresh Fernando, Mr. Chandi and Mr. Rohan Athureliya are among the many private donors who had volunteered to provide support to the programme.

President Maithripala Sirisena is expected to grace the programme as the chief guest.
