KDU's 10th International Research Conference Debates on 'Changing
Dynamics in the Global Environment: Challenges and Opportunities'
The 10th International Research Conference, organized
by the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) was
ceremonially inaugurated Thursday morning (3) at the KDU, auditorium at
Ratmalana under the patronage of Hon. Susil Premajanth, Minister of
Science and Technology, as the Chief Guest together with tri-service
Commanders and a large number of scholars representing both military and
civil sectors graced the sessions.
The two-day long (3-4 August) this year's conference
was focused on 'Changing Dynamics in the Global Environment: Challenges
Each year, the KDU attracts more than 2000 researchers
from all over the world and it receives more than 500 submissions of
research papers. 320 papers have been selected to present at this year
out of a similar number of submissions to be produced at this year's
This year, the organizers have invited the world
renowned Sri Lankan scholars, Prof Chandra Wickramasinghe, an astronomer
and astrobiologist, residing in the UK, and Dr Bandul Wije, a Scientist
and a Biomedical Engineer for conferment of Honorary Professorships in
recognition of their invaluable contribution to the advancement of
Broadening opportunities for national and
international scholars to disseminate and share their expert knowledge,
gained through various research, this year's research conference has
been organized under 9 thematic sessions.
Sessions on Engineering, Biomedical Engineering,
Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering,
Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering and
Marine Engineering under the engineering category.
Medical sessions comprised of the fields of
pre-clinical and post-clinical sciences and clinical sciences and while
Allied Health Science sessions consisted of nursing, laboratory
sciences, pharmacy, physiotherapy and radiography.
Sessions on law addressed areas of international law,
criminal law, and military law.
Sessions on computing consisted of computing and
Sessions on basic and Applied Sciences session which
covered areas such as bio-chemical sciences, molecular bio-science,
physics and agriculture.
Sessions reserved for management of Social Sciences
and Humanities touched on areas of management, social sciences,
languages, political science and economics.
Similarly, one more session covered built environment,
architecture, landscaping, quantity surveying, and surveying.
This annual conference provides an opportunity for
researchers from various fields to present their research findings. All
sessions had a plenary session and a number of technical sessions.
The conference, conducted under the guidance of Rear
Admiral Jagath Ranasinghe, Vice Chancellor, KDU was chaired by Dr.
Prasanna Premadasa, Senior Lecturer, with the assistance of
co-secretaries Mr. W.P.L.K. Wijesinghe and Ms. A.M.T.N. Adikari -
Lecturers of the KDU.
