Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force enlists professionals

Sri Lanka Army announced that, the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) is now enlisting professionals under the age of 55 and on completion of enlistment they will be commissioned as Lieutenant Colonels, Colonels and etc accordingly in the SLAVF, during a media briefing held last Tuesday (11 Feb) at the Nelum Pokuka Mahinda Rajapaksa theatre, Colombo.

The enlistment of professionals into the SLAVF was initiated under the guidance of the Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa and with the direct supervision of the Commandant of SLAVF Major General Prasad Samarasinghe.

Having written in the annals of the SL Army, SLAVF with its rich history of more than 118 years, now expanding its capacity moulded with professionals from both public and private sectors under the well-known theme called "Api Army" (We are Army).

Speaking at the event Military Spokesperson Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said that, professionals those who are sound in the fields of medicine, engineering, accountancy, agriculture, languages, hospitality, event management and technology will be absorbed into the system with the intention of reversing its standard  back to the times before 1980s.

Similarly, they will be summoned into active service when requirement arises such as natural disasters, catastrophes, emergency situations and for mega development projects. They would also be able to continue the active service until reach of age 55 with the entitle perks relevant to the respective ranks.

With its unfathomable contribution to the development of the nation since its early stages, SLAVF has now grown up to 103 Battalions including 2322 officers and 61088 other ranks those who are serving countrywide. Their immense contribution extended during the battle field added an extra strength to the victory.

Commandant of SLAVF Maj. General Prasad Samarasinghe, Deputy Commandant Maj. General W.D.L.N Wickremasinghe, senior military officials and a large gathering of media personnel were present at the event.

Applications including enrolment procedures and further details will be published on 18 February 2014. The closing date for the applications will be 31 March 2014.
