* Compensation to Service Personnel (KIA, MIA and Disabled)
* Compensation for persons who suffer due to terrorist activities and compensation for lost/ damaged properties due to terrorist activities.
* Compensation for damages to vehicles requisitioned by Armed Forces.
* Welfare activities for Armed Forces.
* National Defence Funds.
* Liaison with Ranaviru Seva Authority.
* Provision of Security to important places.
* All establishments matters pertaining to the Kotelawala Defence
University
* All establishments matters pertaining to the Army Command and Staff College.
* All establishments matters and policy formulation pertaining to the national Cadet Corps.
* Implementation & control of the Defence Training Project.
* Any other matters assigned by Secretary Defence

Role of the Additional Secretary - Administration
* Administration of personnel and establishments matters of all officers of the Ministry of Defence.
* Monitoring of the requirements and proper management of the assets of the Ministry of Defence.
* Establishments matters pertaining to the Civilians staff of the Armed Forces.
* Administration and establishments matters of the Language Training Institute at Kothmale.
* Activities pertaining to the Ministry Tender Board.
* Administration and establishments matters of SIS.
* Implementation of the programmes on Human Resources. Development / Training Programmes for the personnel of the MOD and Agencies which function under the MOD
* The activities of the Engineering Division of the MOD.
* To compile monthly, quarterly and annual performance / progress reports of the MOD and all other agencies that function under the MOD.
* Implementation of the (Chapter 182) Guns Ordinance as amended by the Act No.22 of 1996.
* Implementation of the (Chapter 83) Explosive Act No.21 of 1956 as amended by the Act No. 14 of 1978 and the Explosives orders imposed under the above Act.
* Any other matters assigned by Secretary of Defence.

* Granting of approval and security clearances required for Radio transmissions. Tele – communication Services, Broadcasting & Telecast services, Data Communication activities. Non-Government Organisations, Commence and Trade Institutions and opening then by persons, Importation, selling and usage of equipments.
* All maters relating to Electronic Communication activities.
* Any other matters assigned by Secretary Defence.

* All administrative matters of the Defnce Service Collage.
* Admission of the Children of war heroes of the Three Forces and the Police who are serving in the North and the East to the schools.
* All administrative matters of the Department of Coast Guard.
* All parliamentary affairs including Parliamentary questions pertaining to the Ministry of Defence and preparation of replies for such questions.
* Granting of approval for scripts of Teledramas and Films and film shooting in the High Security Zones.
* Acquisition of lands required for the Ministry of Defence and the instructions functioning under it.
* Matters relating to the National Administrative Reform Council.
* Any other matters assigned by Secretary Defence.

& Development
* National Commission against proliferation of illicit Small Arms
* "Deyata Kirula" & other related exhibition.
* Liaison with RRR, SCOPP and UN Agencies.
* All matters connected with the Disaster Management Centre.
* Training activities of the three services and Police personnel on Disaster Management.
* Implementation of the provisions stipulated under the Regulation of Private Security.
* Agencies Act. No 45 of 1998 and made there under.
* Any other matters assigned by secretary of Defence.
