'The temporary ban on Facebook following the incidents occurred in Kandy and Ampara will be lifted within the next few days', President Maithripala Sirisena said. He added that even though there is room for any medium for the benefit of the society, there is a need for a certain approach to control the destruction cause to the society by some vicious elements using these mediums.

Bicycles for Kilinochchi children

A group of students from low income families in Kilinochchi was presented with bicycles during a ceremony facilitated by the Sri Lanka Army troops. According to Army media, 25 students in the region were presented with bicycles at the ceremony held at the Harmony Centre in Kilinochchi on Wednesday (14th March).

Australia provides two main engines to Navy ship

The Australian Government has provided two main engines to the Sri Lanka Navy. According to Navy media, the High Commissioner of Australia to Sri Lanka, HE Bryce Hutchesson handed over the two engines to the Navy's Deputy Chief of Staff and Director General Operations, Rear Admiral Piyal De Silva during a ceremony held at SLNS Dakshina in Galle on Wednesday (14th March).

Troops assist to organize inter school band competition

Sri Lanka Army troops in Trincomalee provided assistance to organize an Inter School Western Band competition recently. According to Army media, troops of 22 Division Headquarters under Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) together with the Old Boys Association of St Joseph's College, Trincomalee jointly organized the competition at the St Joseph's College ground in Trincomalee on Saturday (10).

Coast Guard Life Savers save more than 900 lives

Coast Guard life savers stationed at the Mount Lavinia beach managed to save the lives of two locals from drowning at sea on Monday (12th March). The two youngsters both aged 19 and from Veyangoda and Nittambuwa had been swept away to sea when they had gone for a bath at the popular beach.

Navy's Hydrographic Service prepares first Nautical Chart
