11th World Military Golf Championship-2017 tees off at China Bay
The 11th World Military Golf Championship 2017, hosted
by the Sri Lanka Air Force began at the Eagles' Golf Links in China Bay,
Trincomalee. The tournament is being held in Sri Lanka for the first
time from 12th to 19th November.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Chief of
Defence Staff Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne. CISM Secretary General,
Colonel Dorah Mamby Koita attended the event as the Official
Representative of the CISM. Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General
Mahesh Senanayake and Chief of Staff of the Sri Lanka Air Force, Air
Vice Marshal Sumangala Dias were also present at the occasion.
84 military golfers from the USA, Netherlands,
Bahrain, Canada, Estonia, France, Germany, Spain, Zimbabwe and the host
country, Sri Lanka are competing at this championship event. The nine
member Sri Lankan team includes 06 male and 03 female golfers. This is
the first time female players are taking part in the Championship. In
addition 27 representative officials of the International Military
Sports Council are officiating the matches being held at the picturesque
18 hole Eagles' Golf Links in the Eastern Port city of Trincomalee.
