An LTTE supporter alleged in abetting terrorism in US seized in Indonesia

"The Indonesian police arrested a Sri Lankan wanted in the United States for allegedly smuggling arms for use in terrorist attacks in New York, on Thursday the 3rd of January", many international media repots said.

Pratheepan Thavarajah, 32, was arrested on Thursday at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport in Jakarta just as he was boarding a flight to Kuala Lumpur, national police spokesman Anton Bahrul Alam told reporters.

"He is in our custody and we are investigating him for seven days before he is sent to the United States," Alam said.

"Indonesia and America has no extradition treaty but ... in this case we will extradite him based on the good relations of both governments," he added. Anton said Interpol in Washington issued a warrant for his arrest on August 20, 2006.

A court in New York has issued an order for the arrest of Thavarajah on arms smuggling conviction. If found guilty in arms smugglind and abetting terrorism the suspect could face 15 years in Prison according to the US laws.

However, the Indoniaisn police revealed that it had not set a date to extradite the suspect to the United States, to which Indonesia has no extradition treaty

It has been further revealed that the suspect has been the main arms dealer for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam or the LTTE, one of the worlds most ruthless terrorist organization. Although, not categorized as an International terror outfit, the growing evidence shows that the LTTE has become the main hub for arms smuggling, money laundering, drugs trafficking and other fund raising activities for the whole network of terror outfits across the globe.

Through its vast network of propaganda machinery and its hired hands in the international humanitarian organizations', INGOs and news agencies; the LTTE has successfully mislead the international community that some countries still hesitate to accept it as a terror outfit.

Unfortunately, this has given the LTTE a sort of immunity to operate freely across the globe and flourish its links with the other terror outfits that are not so privileged.
