LTTE attempt to hamper shipment thwarted- Jaffna
A
cluster of 31 LTTE boats were chased in the seas off Vettalaikerni, 15
nautical miles South East of Point Pedro, on Saturday the 06th of
December, at 03.50p.m.
On first information received by the SL Navy, an LTTE
attempt to obstruct shipment of essential goods to the Jaffna peninsula
was successfully thwarted in a combined military wave in the tensed
Northern waters.
Multi-barrel and aerial bombardments are believed to
have inflicted heavy damages to the concentrated LTTE boats. Intercepted
LTTE communication revealed that the multi-barrel fire from Army troops,
has caught the LTTE boats unexpectedly which were mingling 08cables (0.8
nautical miles) from the shores off Vettalaikerni.
Meanwhile, 3000MT of essential food supplies which
arrived from Chennai- India, at the port of Kankasenturai, on
Thursday(04),were being unloaded a few miles North - West, during the
failed LTTE siege.
Naval sources said that a tensed situation has erupted
in the Northern seas as the terrorist outfit is in a blatant effort to
hamper flow of essential foods to the Jaffna peninsula and strand the
innocent Tamil civilians in worsen conditions.
The Kandy-Jaffna(A-9) trunk route has remained closed,
making replenishment by sea the only source of supply to the Jaffna
peninsula, while LTTE terrorists flanked a series of attacks at the
Muhamalai entry/exit point using artillery and mortar fire since last
August(2006).
