Kotelawala Defence Academy to be elevated to status of Defence
University.
Parliament yesterday asked an amendment to Sir John
Kotelawala Defence Academy Act naming it General Sir John Kotelawala
Defence University.
This amendment was moved in Parliament by Prime
Minister Rathnasiri Wickramanayake and passed unanimously. Attention
would be paid what role the University Grants Commission could play in
elevating this institution in a manner that it would retain its
autonomy.
This would provide trainees in the academy an
opportunity to obtain recognized academic and professional
qualifications. It is a historic event in the recognition of the
contributions our forces have made towards national security and
safeguarding the sovereignty of the country.
