"Keep politics apart from national security" says Defence Secretary
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa speaking on the
present security situation assured that yesterday's (22) attack on the
Anuradhapura Camp would not in any way upset planned military operations
against the LTTE terrorists and their bases in the Wanni.
Mr. Rajapaksa appealed to the main opposition not to
play politics at the expense of the security forces as the war enters a
decisive stage. Under estimating the military leadership or their
commitment would only help the enemy who is now desperate at this
juncture.
Failing to recognize the success of the security
forces in the East make their motive clearer. "Accusations were directed
at me personally for purchasing MIG-27 air crafts where as during their
period in office the LTTE had received a massive build up. They allowed
the terrorists to acquire arms, ammunition and equipment and even went
to the extent of paying taxes on behalf of the LTTE, "Defence Secretary
added.
Mr. Rajapaksa said that the main opposition really
speaking must conduct an internal inquiry to ascertain for them selves
debacles suffered during their regime.
