LTTE face dire situations at battle fronts: scores killed in pitched fighting

Latest military reports state that at least 90 terrorists were killed and over  50 injured in tensed battles between troops and LTTE during the past 48 hours ahead of LTTE defences in Wanni and North. According to reports, 6 soldiers have laid their lives while 29 others sustained injuries in confrontations.

In clashes erupted along the Northern battle lines at Kilali, Nagarkovil and Muhamalai on Saturday 7 terrorists were reported killed and 3 wounded, while a soldier was killed and another injured, military sources report. On Sunday, reports received from the Northern front stated that, two soldiers were injured in an IED explosion at Muhamalai front. Troops also recovered 5 pressure mines while advancing along the Muhamalai defences, according to reports.

In the Vavuniya front 55 terrorists were killed and 44 reported wounded in pitched battles during the past 48 hours, military reports stated. According to the reports, 5 soldiers have laid their lives and 16 injured in clashes with LTTE on Saturday (09).

Meanwhile, in fighting between troops and LTTE at the Mannar front on Saturday (09) 6 terrorists were killed while 3 soldiers sustained injuries, military reports stated. Also acting on civilian information in general area Kondampiddi, troops apprehended a consignment of 2x 60 liter petrol cans ready to be transported to non-liberated LTTE territory. According to military reports received, 7 LTTE terrorists were killed and 4 reported wounded in clashes on Sunday (10), security sources said.

In the Welioya defences at Kokkutuduvai, Sankapura, Andankulama and Janakapura troops advanced into LTTE territory killing 12 terrorists. Two terrorists were also reported wounded during the clashes the sources further added. Seven soldiers were also wounded in the clashes on Saturday sources said.

Meanwhile, in separate clashes erupted between LTTE and troops yesterday (February 10) at the tensed Welioya battle lines at Janakapura and Kadduttamalai, 7 terrorists were killed and two injured according to reports, military sources said.
