Wanni liberation operation in progress; LTTE suffer heavy damages
According to the military report reached from the
forefront, 28 LTTE terrorists were killed and another 17 were either
killed or wounded in clashed sparked in Northern and Wanni defences
yesterday, March 26. Further it says, 22 more terrorists were wounded
during these clashes. Six security forces personnel have made their
supreme sacrifice while another 19 suffered injuries, the report further
stated.
On the Jaffna theatre of battle, three LTTE cadres
were killed in clashes occurred Muhamalai front. Meanwhile, one soldier
was killed and two others suffered injuries in clashes in the same
front.
On Wanni theatre of battle, in Vavuniya front,
incidents are reported from Madu, Sulanamaruthamadu and Koilmoddai areas
yesterday. Two LTTE cadres were killed in a confrontation took place in
general area Madu while four others suffered injuries when the troops
ambushed an LTTE movement in same area, the report said. Four army
personnel were killed while seven others reported injured during
confrontations took place in Sulanamaruthamadu and Koilmoddai areas.
In Mannar front, Sri Lanka Air Force MI-24 gun ships
launched an air raid targeting LTTE strongholds in general area
Alankulam and by intercepting LTTE communication channel, it is revealed
that 7 terrorists were killed while 18 others suffered severe injuries
due to this attack. Meanwhile, five more terrorists were killed in
separate confrontations took place in Kaddupulam and Sirikulam areas,
troops confirmed.
One soldier received injuries due to an explosion of
anti-personnel mine in general area Adampan. Meanwhile, five people
including one army soldier, two STF personnel and two civil workers
injured due to indiscriminate mortar fire launched by the LTTE in
general area Giant's Tank, sources said.
Troops on clearing operations in general area
Malikaittidal unearthed 48 anti-personnel mines and 8 booby traps while
25 more anti-personnel mines unearthed from general area Cheddikulam.
In Welioya front, troops launched an attack targeting
LTTE strong point located at north of Janakapura and troops confirmed
that 5 terrorists were killed in this attack. Five slain bodies of LTTE
terrorists, five T-56 weapons, 60 mm mortar launcher and one radio set
were found in a subsequent search operation conducted in the area.
Meanwhile, troops found a decomposed dead body of an LTTE cadre, one
T-56 weapon and 6 hand grenades in a search operation conducted in the
same area. One soldier was reported injured due to anti-personnel mine
explosion took place in general area north of Janakapura.
In separate confrontation took place in North of
Kiribbanwewa, intercepted terror transmission confirmed five LTTE cadres
were killed. One soldier was killed and another three suffered injuries
while one soldier yet to marry up with the rest of his team, the report
stated. In the same area, troops confirmed that four more terrorists
were either killed or wounded in a clash sparked around 10.50 a.m
yesterday. One soldier also received injuries in this incident.
In general area west of Kiribbanwewa, an LTTE cadre
was killed while another four either killed or wounded in a clash
sparked around 11.00 a.m yesterday. One slain body of LTTE cadre and a
T-56 weapon were found in a subsequent search operation.
Five more LTTE cadres were either killed or wounded
due to two separate confrontations took place in general area north of
Janakapura in morning hours yesterday, the report further said.
Meanwhile, seven LTTE terrorists were either killed or
wounded when the troops ambushed an LTTE movement in general area
Janakapura around 12.40 p.m yesterday.
