Wanni liberation operation in progress; 29 terrorists killed

According to the reports reached from forefronts, 29 LTTE terrorists were killed while 3 others wounded in yesterday's clashes (March 29) when the troops advanced further into LTTE territory in multi-pronged offensive operation launched in Jaffna and Wanni region. Four other LTTE cadres were either killed or wounded in yesterday's clashes, the report further said.

On Jaffna theatre of battle, two LTTE terrorists were gunned down by army snipers deployed in Muhamalai front in two separate incidents occurred last afternoon, the report said. Meanwhile two more terror cadres were wounded when the troops launched an attack at terror bunkers in same front around 9.15 p.m. yesterday.

On Wanni theatre of battle, in Vavuniya front, clashes were reported from Navathkulam, Vilathikulam, Kallikulam, Madu and Ramanadankulam areas. According to the report, 22 terrorists were killed while another cadre received injuries. An army soldier has made his supreme sacrifice while 10 others suffered injuries in several clashes sparked in general area Madu, the report stated.

Meanwhile, troops on mine clearing operation have unearthed 78 anti-personnel mines from the general area Navathkulam. Separately, 20 anti-personnel mines and 5 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were found while troops on clearing operation in general area Madu.

In Mannar front, army snipers gunned down four LTTE cadres in Adampan and Vannakulam areas yesterday. Troops found one anti-personnel mine, one RPG bomb and one hand grenade from general area Periyakulam while two 40 mm grenades and one 81 mm mortar bomb were found in general area Vaddayamurippu.

In Welioya front, clashes were reported in north of Kiribbanwewa and north of Janakapura areas and one terrorist was killed while other four were either killed or wounded due to these clashes. Two army soldiers have made their utter sacrifice on behalf of the motherland while five suffered injuries during yesterday's clashes sparked in Welioya front, the report said.
