Wanni liberation continues; 34 terrorists killed, 18 wounded

At least 34 terrorists were killed when the troops attack against LTTE defences in multi-pronged assault launched in Jaffna, Mannar, Vavuniya and Welioya fronts yesterday, April 26.

Army snipers deployed in Jaffna theatre of battle, gunned down 4 LTTE terrorists in Kilaly, Muhamalai and Nagarkovil fronts.

In Vavuniya front, troops have observed a terror movement and attacked them in general area Navatkulam. Ground sources confirmed that an LTTE terrorist was killed in this attack.

Meanwhile, troops have launched an attack targeting a group of LTTE terrorist in general area Vilakkvittakulam. By intercepting the terror transmission it is learnt that 3 LTTE cadres were killed in this attack.

In Mannar front, troops have launched heavy gun fire at an enemy target in general area Andankulam. By monitoring LTTE communication it is revealed that a terrorist was killed in this attack. Meanwhile, troops have launched an attack targeting LTTE bunker defence in general area Mantota. Ground troops confirmed that at least 4 terrorists were killed. Two terror bunkers were also fully destroyed.

A fierce battle erupted between security forces and LTTE, when the terrorists trying to storm the defence line with artillery and mortar fire in Welioya front. The battle was erupted in general era north of Janakapura during the day time and the terrorists attempt to breach the defence line was successfully thwarted by causing heavy losses to the enemy. By monitoring the LTTE communication channels, it is learnt that 18 terrorists were killed while another 18 suffered injuries during is gun battle. In a search operation conducted in the area following the confrontation, a slain body an LTTE cadre was uncovered along with a T-56 weapon, 10 hand grenades, 3 radio sets and several warlike items left behind by the fleeing terrorists. Seven security forces personnel have made their utter sacrifice for the sake of their motherland while 10 others suffered injuries. One soldier reported gone missing during this confrontation and search operations are still in progress to locate him.

Meanwhile, troops have launched an attack at terror bunker in the same area in morning hours. Ground troops confirmed that 3 LTTE cadres were killed in this attack. No damages reported for own troops.

Separately, troops have attack observing an LTTE movement in general area north of Kiriibbanwewa. Troops confirmed that 3 terrorists were either killed or wounded in this attack.
