'No sympathy for LTTE' says Indian External Affairs Minister

"India has no sympathy for terrorist organisations, but wants Sri Lanka to ensure that civilians are not victimised in the conflict between the armed forces and the LTTE", the Indian External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee was quoted as saying by the Indian news sources.

The Indian External Affairs Minister, had expressed these views before leaving for Colombo, on Tuesday.

"I will go to Sri Lanka and have discussions with the President and other authorities there and see what best can be done in this situation," he had told journalists.

"We are for fighting terrorists and all sorts of terrorism. Therefore, we have no sympathy for any organisation indulging in terrorist activity, particularly the LTTE, which is a banned organisation in India. However,we shall have to see how civilians can be protected and (we can ensure that) they do not become hapless victims of the situation."
