Clearing operations continued in Visuamadu
Sri Lanka has stepped up clearing operations in
recently liberated Iranamadu, Visuamadu and Ramanathanpuram areas in
order to provide safe passage for the civilians escaping the LTTE human
shield, defence sources reveal.
According to the battlefield reports, troops of Army
57 Division during their clearing operations in west of Iranamadu,
Visuamadu and Ramanathanpuram areas have found large number of warlike
items and other LTTE assets yesterday (Feb 6).
Among the warlike material founds were 83 hand
grenades, one LTTE aerial bomb, two Arul bombs, one RCL bomb, one 80 mm
mortar bomb, three RPG bombs, 20 detonators, and one T-56 riffle. Among
the other assets, troops captured the main base of LTTE Radha band, a
garment factory used of stitching pouches, belt orders, etc, and number
of vehicles. There were one earth moving vehicle, two single cabs, one
double cab, one tractor, and one jeep among the vehicles found.
Also, troops of Thursday (Feb 5) found an LTTE
necropolis with over 4700 graves in the Visuamadu area. |
