Army 58 Division continues to dominate north of A-35
Sri Lanka Army 58 Division soldiers currently
operating north of A-35 road (Paranthan- Mullaittivu) are successfully
dominating the areas north of A-35 and west of Challai lagoon, sources
in the battlefield reveal.
According to the battlefield reports received on
yesterday's (Feb 6) operations, infantrymen of 12 Gamunu Watch (12GW),
9GW, 6GW 10 and Gajaba Regiment (10 GR), had engaged in heavy
confrontations with the terrorists in the Tamarankulam, Verakulam,
Ettakokavilkulam areas located about 6 Km north of the A-35 road last
morning. Troops found 6 bodies of LTTE cadres during subsequent search
operations. Ground troops claimed heavy damages to the terrorists.
Meanwhile troops manoeuvring towards west down the
A-35, found one air-conditioned bus, one earth moving vehicle, one
single crew cab, one car, and 8400 litres of Kerosene oil in 40 barrels
and another 8400 litres of diesel in 40 barrels from the Kupulan Kulam
area.
Snipers deployed north of Kupulan Kulam confirmed
shooting down of 4 LTTE cadres during the day.
Meanwhile, a large number of IDPs sought refuge with
the 58 Division soldiers yesterday. Troops found 3 civilians; two males
and one elderly woman injured due to LTTE small arms fire. The injured
were rushed to the government hospital Vavuniya. The IDPs too confirmed
that the LTTE terrorists had fired them upon. |
