Scores of terrorists killed in Purthukkudiyirippu fighting: Troops
encircle last LTTE enclave
Heavy fighting continued between troops and LTTE
terrorists West of Puthukkudiyirippu and East of Ampalavanpokkanai since
yesterday (Feb 21) morning as counter terrorist operations entered its
last phases in Mullaittivu, military sources said.
At least 36 terrorists were killed and over a dozen
reported injured in the fighting while security forces also confirmed
recovering 11 LTTE bodies during subsequent search operations conducted.
On Friday (20), troops of the 58 Division have located
an LTTE administration and logistic base in general area
Puthukkudiyirippu. According to military reports received, intense
fighting have broke out with LTTE as troops pushed through a terrorist
resistance position killing 8 terrorists and injuring 10 others
yesterday (21). Subsequently, troops have also uncovered 2 LTTE bodies,
one RPG weapon with 25 RPG bombs, one T-56 assault riffle and an LMG gun
security sources said. 7 more terrorists were also reported killed
sniped separately in the same area, according to military sources.
Meanwhile, troops confirmed killing 5 terrorists,
injuring 8 others during a separate confrontation with LTTE in general
area West of Puthukkudiyirippu, also recovering 3 LTTE bodies along with
a T-56 assault riffle and an I-com set.
According to military sources, 5 terrorists were
killed sniped in the same area. Troops have subsequently uncovered the
LTTE bodies with weapons, the sources further said. Meanwhile, 6 more
terrorists were reported sniped in general area East of
Ampalavanpokkanai, while 5 others met with similar fate in general area
Udayarkkatu.
