53 Div takes over 1.5km road stretch in
Mullaittivu: LTTE nears total defeat
Sri Lankan Army infantrymen
of the 53 Division advancing eastwardly in Puthukkudiyirippu towards the
remaining LTTE resistance positions at the Mullaittivu battlefront have
reportedly gained total control over a 1.5km stretch of the Paranthan-
Mullaittivu (A-35 ) main road this morning (March 21).
According to military
sources, troops are now consolidating defences in the area after
neutralizing LTTE resistances. Terrorists put-on stiff resistances with
heavy artillery shelling and mortar attacks launched from the declared
No Fire Zone in the Eastern Mullaittivu coast, the sources further said.
Subsequently, troops have
also uncovered 5 bodies of slain terrorists along with 13 T-56 assault
riffles, 10 hand grenades, 03 communication sets and a single-cab
vehicle.
Meanwhile, at least 20
terrorists were reported killed by snipers of the 58 Division deployed
in general area East of Puthukkudiyirippu yesterday. Also, Task Force -2
troops engaged in active defence at the recently liberated areas of
Udayarkattukulama, West of Puthukkudiyirippu have uncovered 201
anti-personal (AP) mines during search operations conducted. 2 electric
power generators, 2 motor cycles, 01 Nissan van and 05 air-conditioning
plants were also found security sources said.
In general area
Pulmaichchinatikulam, TF-3 troops uncovered 4 hand grenades, 2
detonators, 2 T-56 weapon magazines and 125 T-56 riffle ammunition. |
