Heavy fighting in north-east of Puthukudiyiruppu; 13 LTTE bodies
found
According to the latest information received from the
battlefront, fierce fighting ranged in northeast of Puthukudiyiruppu as
troops of 53 (Task Force 8 also attached to 53 Div) and 58 Divisions
surrounded the LTTE's remaining area in the offensive continued after
capturing Pachchapulmudai junction by last evening, 1 April.
Troops of 5 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (5 VIR)
confronted with LTTE terrorists while advancing south to north direction
to linkup with the troops of 58 Division marched from north to south
encircling LTTE terrorists in approximately 1Sq Km stretch in north east
of Puthukudiyiruppu, defence sources added.
In search operations conducted following heavy
confrontations in the area, troops have found 10 bodies of LTTE
terrorists killed in hours-long fighting along with warlike items left
behind by the fleeing terrorists. 5 x T-56 weapons, 1 x I-Com set, 2 x
RPG bombs, 31 x HMG ammunition and accessories of HMG weapon are also
uncovered during the search operation.
Meanwhile, 6 Gajaba Regiment (6 GR) advanced further
to adjust the defence line amidst LTTE resistance were able to inflict
heavy damages to terrorists, military report added. 3 x bodies of LTTE
terrorists killed during the confrontation found along with 3 x T-56
assault riffles and 2 x RPG bombs.
Yesterday, 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (11 SLLI)
troops have captured the Pachchapulmudai junction located along the
Puthukudiyiruppu - Ampalavanpokkanai Road which links the No Fire Zone
after and mainland through the laggon. With the fallen of
Pachchapulmudai junction, LTTE lost their last supply route used for
reinforcement and logistic transportation to Puthukudiyiruppu. |
