Five thousands more civilians rescued- Palamattalam

Over 5000 civilians have sought refuge with the soldiers of Army 55 Division manning the northern boundary of the No Fire Zone (NFZ) at Palamattalam, South of Challai, reveal defence sources.

According to the sources, troops have captured one of the LTTE built earth bund located north of the NFZ this afternoon (Apr 20) reducing LTTE's fire power in area.

Meanwhile, aerial observations indicated nearly 3000 civilians have been rushing towards the northern boundary of the NFZ along the coastline. Later, a large group of people have attacked the LTTE cadres who attempted to stop them and crossed over to the army line amid LTTE small arms fire.

The sources further said that exact number of civilians who have been rescued so far in the area is yet to be finalized.
