One lakh displaced civilians to be resettled by mid-October
The Government implemented resettlement project is
progressively underway, with effective preparations for resettlement of
an estimated number of one lakh of displayed civilians by mid-October.
According to competent authorities, steps are being taken to send at
least 45,000 residents of North and 5,000 residents of the Eastern
province to their villages in the coming weeks.
Earlier on Thursday (24), Minister of Mass Media and
Information Anura Priyadarshana Yapa, speaking at a media briefing in
Colombo said that, the Government has completed resettlement of 40,000
displaced civilians who were rescued from LTTE hostage and accommodated
at temporary welfare centers in Vavuniya
Meanwhile, government officials have gestured the
immediate resettlement of displaced civilians in Mannar and Vavuniya
districts shortly, adding that pregnant mothers, disabled, sick and
elderly had also been permitted to leave with their relatives. For those
remaining in the welfare centers, a monsoon-proof contingency place is
in place, the officials further said.
