'Matha'- A film on the Sri Lankan conflict

'Matha' a film by the Sri Lankan renowned film Director Boodee Keerthisena based on the island's 30 year conflict is on the making. The film is scheduled to hit the Sri Lankan wide-screen in January, 2010. The introduction ceremony of film 'Matha' was held today (Oct 09), at the Sri Lankan Rupavahini Corporation auditorium.

Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the Chief Guest at the occasion.

"This film is what we Sri Lankas were waiting for many years. Many film makers had made considerable efforts but lacked intensity, excitement and by-an-large failed to catch the reality of the exiting ground situation", said a technical crew member of the film speaking with our correspondent.

This is not just a war film, but a celluloid journey through the history of Asia's long fought conflict, a close insight of the lives affected and how a nation unified against all odds in the time of need. The script was written by Prof. Ariyarathne Athugala, Chairman of Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation.

Popular Sri Lankan actors will cast in the film including Ravindra Randeniya, Sangeetha Weeraratna and Sawmya liyanage. The technical crew will also include some of Hollywood's professional said Director Boodee Keerthisena.

Secretary to the Ministry of Mass Media and information Mr. W B Ganegala, Director General of the Media Center for National Security Mr. Laxman Hulugalle, Chairmen of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Cooperation Mr Hudson Samarasinghe, Chairmen of the Independent Television Network Mr Anura Siriwardana ,Chairmen of the Associated newspapers of Ceylon Ltd Bandula Padmakumara, Chairmen of the National lotteries Board Upali Leyanage, Senior Officials of the Rupavahini cooperation, Professionals from the Sri Lankan film industry and many other invitees were also present at the occasion.
