New Maternity Ward opens at Vavuniya Hospital
A newly constructed Maternity Ward and a Labour Room
for the General Hospital in Vavuniya was declared open by Minister of
Health Care and Nutrition Nimal Sripala De Silva on 02nd November.
A Maternity Ward complex comprising 60 beds and a
fully equipped labour room was built in cost of 45 Million. UNICEF
provided 35 Million for medical equipments and construction. A Chest
Clinic, funded by the government of Japan at cost 10 Million, was also
declared open by the Minister after the opening of Maternity Word.
In parallel, the inauguration ceremony of the first
midwifery training course was also held at the NTS Vavuniya. The
appointment letters of the Trainee Public Health Midwife also handed
over to the trainees by the Minister at the same function.

Rishad Bathiudeen, Governor of Northern Province Major General GA
Chandrasiri, Member of Parliament Sivanathan Kishor, Former
Parliamentarian Mr.D.Sidharthan, Chief of Health & Nutrition Section,
UNICEF, Colombo Dr.Moazzem Hossain and several officials of the Health
ministry also attended at the event.
