Resettlement of IDPs at satisfactory level - Govt
Defence spokesman and Minister Keheliya Rambukwella
yesterday said that the resettlement of IDPs was at a satisfactory level
and 9,931 IDP had yesterday visited the areas they would be resettled
in. About 3,200 had returned to their respective welfare camps by
evening.
"The IDP are provided buses from different camps to
visit the villages where they will be resettled and this process will
continue until they are fully resettled," he said adding that they are
forced to return to the camps until the building of permanent structures
for the was completed.
One main reason for the delay in resettling them was
that the areas they were to be resettled had been heavily mined and
until demining was completed no one would be able to resettle there, he
said.
Government did not want any one of them to be victims
of landmines and was worried about their safety, he said.
