Voting facilities for the displaced and resettled

Moves are afoot to set up polling booths within the Welfare Villages in the North for the civilians to cast their votes at the Presidential polls. The Government has focused attention on the establishment of polling centers within the Welfare Villages to enable the civilians of the North to exercise their franchise at the Presidential polls.

A majority of the displaced have taken shelter in nine of the Welfare Villages within Vavuniya. A special discussion on the setting up of polling booths within these villages is planned for today.

Vavuniya District Secretary P.S.M.Charles said that facilities will be extended to those who have been resettled in their places of origin to exercise their franchise within their villages.
