Creating a golden opportunity to enter tri forces
after obtaining a degree, the Kothalawala Defence University is ready to
recruit Officer Cadets for its Intake 28 in the year 2010. This was
revealed by Maj General M.P. Peiris the Vice Chancellor/Commandant of
KDU in a press conference held at the Media Centre for National Security
yesterday (08).
Further addressing the conference Major General Peiris
stated that one can serve his or her own Motherland as a Commissioned
Officer in the Tri Forces after entering the Sir John Kothalawala
Defence University which is considered as the only Defence University in
Asia. G.C.E. A/L qualified students who are eligible to apply for the
University admission can apply for following different courses under the
KDU. In addition to this qualification, general knowledge, fluency in
English language and Sports skills are also considered in the selection
test.
The candidates are directed to follow the degree
courses as Officer Cadets in Army, Navy & Air Force after qualifying in
the basic three tests conducted by the KDU. The degree courses conducted
here are organized with 75% of academic and 25% of military training.
The main feature of the courses conducted in the KDU is that any person
who is eligible for the University admission can apply for the degree
courses conducted by the KDU. University grant commission too has
approved the courses conducted by the KDU. Further the KDU is a member
of the Association of Universities of the Common Wealth countries. The
Officer Cadets who are following the courses under the KDU which is
fully equipped with human and Physical resources are assured 100% job
security.
The selected candidates for the degree courses in year
2010 are categorized as follows. 25 candidates are taken to follow the
Course of Bachelor Medicine and Surgery, another 59 are recruited for
the course of Bachelor of Science Engineering, 28 Officer Cadets are
taken into the course of Bachelor of Science Management and Technical
Science. 27 candidates are enlisted for the course of Bachelor of Law
and another 25 are taken to the course of Bachelor of Science Social
Studies. Meanwhile 24 Officer Cadets are directed to follow the Bachelor
of Science Logistic Management in the year 2010. The Course of Bachelor
of Laws has been introduced as a new degree course since this year.
Further Major General Peiris stated that the Officer Cadet can follow
the degree courses such as Aeronautical Engineering and Marine
Engineering which are not available in the other Universities. In
addition to the above courses the Officer Cadets get opportunities to
follow post graduate diploma courses and Master of Arts courses in the
KDU.
10 Officer Cadets are supposed to be recruited to
follow the Aeronautical Engineering degree course since this year. These
Officer Cadets should pay the course fees. After finishing their 03
years long degree course they are bound to serve as the Volunteer
Officers in the Sri Lanka Air Force. These Volunteer Officers are
mobilized to the active service when their service is required the Vice
chancellor added.
Further addressing the conference Vice Chancellor
Major General Peiris stated that the Officer Cadets from Bangladesh,
Nepal and Bhutan are also following different degree courses in the KDU.
The Officer Cadets studying for their degrees are entitled to enjoy
Language Laboratory facilities, Science Laboratory facilities, Sports
and library facilities during the period of studies. The Officer Cadets
who successfully complete their degree courses are directed to Military
Academies for one year Military training. The Officer Cadets will be
paid an approximate monthly salary of Rs 23,000. In addition to that
board and lodging, Uniforms, Batmen facilities, Recreational facilities
and Medical facilities will be offered free of charge.
The Gazette notification regarding the enrollment of
Officer Cadets to the KDU in year 2010 will be issued in soon and
further details will be publicized in the News papers. Further the
relevant applications can be obtained through the www.kdu.ac.lk web
site. Duly completed applications should be forward under registered
cover to General Sir John Kothalawala Defence University, Kadawala
Estate, Rathmala on or before 09th April 2010 Maj. General Peiris
further added.
Military Spokesman Major General Prasad Samarasinghe,
Brigadier Lal Gunasekara, Lt.Col. S.K. Eshwaran, Professor R.D. Mapa and
Registrar D.M. Dayawansha also participated in the press conference held
at the Media Center for National Security yesterday (08).
