Maha Sivarathri at historic Mannar temple
The All Ceylon Hindu Congress (ACHC) and
Thirukeetheeswaram Temple Restoration Society have, with the assistance
of the Government and the Indian High Commission, made elaborate
arrangements for Maha Sivarathri observances tomorrow (13).
ACHC general secretary Kandiah Neelakandan said a
large number of devotees from various parts of the island are expected
to take part in the observations and pray Lord Shiva, keeping vigil
throughout the night.
The president of the All Ceylon Hindu Congress and
also chairman of the board of trustees of Thirukeetheeswaram Temple has
with the sponsorship of the Indian High Commission arranged well-known
devotional singers from India to participate in this Maha Sivarathri
festival.
One of the musicians is Shrimathi Vijayalakshmi (also
known as (Vijayalakshmi Rajaram in music circles) and the other is
Srimathi Meenakashi Srinivasan who is a pupil of Sri M. A. Krishnan and
Dr Smt Rukmani Ramanio.
All arrangements for the participation of these
musicians at the Mahasivarathri celebrations have been made by High
Commissioner Ashok. K. Kantha.
The Government of Sri Lanka has provided all the
infrastructural facilities by constructing roads and the environment
modernised under the guidance of Northern Province Governor
Major-General G. A. Chandrasiri.
