Discussion to solve teachers problems in Northern Province
A discussion was held at the Jaffna Central College
recently by the Northern province Governor Major General G A Chandrasiri
to discuss the difficulties faced by Northern Province teachers.
There were teachers who had to be temporary attached
to schools in Jaffna and in the discussion the Governor convinced that
most of them had travelling problems to schools in resettled areas due
to various reasons. Therefore the Governor instructed the Directors of
Education to allow those who were pregnant and physically unable to
travel daily (totalling about 350 teachers)to stay behind in Jaffna for
a further period and to deploy five buses for their travelling from
Jaffna to Vavuniya free of charge daily.
He further said that plans were underway to deploy 10
additional buses to cater to the needs of school children and teachers
in Vavuniya and Mannar areas and that would create job opportunities for
about 75 drivers and conductors in the area.
In his speech requesting Line Ministries to enhance
and develop the education activities in the Zone and Districts the
Governor reminded that Teachers Training Programme was in the offing for
the teachers in the North Province.
