MOD SVU hands over new house to a war hero Defence Ministry's Seva Vanitha Unit (SVU) handed over a newly constructed house to a war hero in Tangalle yesterday (12 June). The house was handed over to Private SD Jayantha Kumara of 1st Gajaba Regiment GR) , who scarified his limb while serving in the battle front Ariyale, Jaffna in 2003 , due to LTTE land mine explosion. Patriotic Sri Lankans living in USA, namely Mr Sanjeewa Gunasekara and Mr. Manil Gunasekara made this noble contribution for the construction of the house while Army 4th Engineer Service Regiment contributed the required man power.  The new house was officially handed over to Private Jayantha and his family in a  function held in Witharandeniya , Tanagell under the Patronage of chair person of MOD SVU Mrs Ioma Rajapaksa and . Secretary Defence Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Vice Chairperson of SVU Mrs Indu Rathnayake, Yala- Hambanthota Area Commander Brig. JMSS Jayawardhana RSP USP ,Commanding officer of 4 ESR Col GPN Chandrarathna , Commanding Officer of 1GR Lt Col IANB Perera ,and many people in the area participated at the occasion.
