Kalpitiya gets geared to the growing Tourist Industry
Tourist sector investors are getting moved in to the
Kalpitiya Tourist Zone, which is one of the high-end tourist Zones the
government envisages to develop to facilitate the growing tourist
industry. It is expected to have at least 30 tourist projects in the
Kalpitiya Zone. Eight projects in an extent of 5,000 acres in Kalpitiya
have already started the mobilising process.
All the projects will be environment friendly and will
be green hotels dedicated to cater to leisure activities.
According to Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority,
they have been able to get the lands owned by the Government that were
not inhabited by fishermen in the hope of creating 5,000 rooms. These
rooms will supplement the 35,000 total rooms in the country by 2015.
Tourist Authority sources said 2,000 rooms will become
available by the end of 2012. More than one million tourists are
expected in the Kalpitiya Zone after the development of the entire
resort, which will be featured with beaches, diving, fishing and
sun-bathing facilities.
