2500 Coconut Saplings to be planted in Kilinochchi

57 Division troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN), launched another mammoth drive to plant 2500 coconut saplings in the Kilinochchi District on Wednesday (1) with the participation of serving military personal in respective areas in the districts.

The programme was launched to coincide with the ongoing 'National Food Production Campaign- 2017', declared by HE the President Maithripala Sirisena.

Under the guidance of Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Forces - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN), the 57 Division Headquarters taking the lead for the project inaugurated the distribution ceremony on Wednesday (1) at the utility hall of the 57 Division Headquarters under the supervision of Major General Jagath Gunawardena, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 57 Division. The entire event was coordinated by the troops of the 17(V) battalion of Gajaba Regiment.

Symbolizing the distribution of those saplings among military personal, Major General Jagath Gunawardena, GOC, 57 Division attended as the Chief Guest for the inaugural ceremony.

Troops of the 57 Division expect to plant 2500 coconut saplings in the heart of Kilinochchi and surrounding areas while distributing among all respective Brigades and Battalions under command to the 57 Division.

Major General Jagath Gunawardane in his brief address to the troops and the gathering highlighted the importance of the project.

All Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers of under command battalions, Civil Security Department personnel, Mr. Kasun Rathnayaka, Coconut Development Officer, Mullaittivu District, Mr. Danujan, Coconut Development Officer, Kilinochchi District and Other Ranks, representing all formations were present at the inaugural ceremony in Kilinochchi.

During the event, Mr Kasun Rathnayaka, Coconut Development Officer, Mullaittivu District conducted a presentation on 'conducting a successful coconut plantation'.

The inauguration of this programme was marked by holding the 'National Wap Magul Ceremony' recently under the patronage of President under the theme 'Let's get together and rise- Let's fill the Granary' near the Thibbotuwawa Tank, Kekirawa.
