Air Force Bell 212 deployed to douse fire at Pelawatte

A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter with a Bambi Bucket was deployed to douse a major fire in Pelawatte, Battaramulla, on Thursday (11 October).

A fire had broken out at the branch of a leading clothes retail chain in Pelawatte yesterday morning. The fire had quickly spread inside the building posing a threat to the adjoining buildings. Army and Air Force personnel rendered assistance to the firefighting operation which had lasted for many hours.

The helicopter with an underslung Bambi Bucket' had to make 17 consecutive sorties before the fire could be brought under control. Air Force fire engines and water tenders were also involved in the firefighting operation.
