Another batch of UK deportees arrive in the Island

The United Kingdom has deported another batch of Sri Lanka asylum seekers. The group of 28 failed asylum seekers arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport at Katunayake in a special flight last morning.

According to international media Britain is to deport 60 Sri Lanka asylum seekers. The British Foreign Office in last March told the BBC that they send people back to Sri Lanka only when the British government and the courts are satisfied that an individual does not need protection.

The Foreign Office has said there had been no substantiated allegations of mistreatment of those returned from the UK.

In September this year UK authorities deported a group of 60 Sri Lankan Tamils including failed asylum seekers and visa overstayers.

This is the sixth such flight of deportees arriving from the UK.
