Army contingent returns home from Mali

[December 05 2017]

A batch of Sri Lanka Army (SLA) personnel returned home after completing their six month tenure at the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), today (05th December). According to Army media, 53 Other Rank personnel of the Corps of Engineer Services (CES) arrived at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), this morning.

The CES contingent, which initially left for Mali, completed the establishment of infrastructure facilities including accommodation, sanitary facilities, stores and other requirements to facilitate the incoming Combat Convoy Company (CCC) of the SL Army in December.

This 200 strong CCC contingent is set to leave for Mali for another UN Peace Keeping Mission. It will leave for Mali in specified categories in groups, considering prioritized requirements in that country. The first CCC of the Army for UN Peace Enforcing Mission under the Chapter 7 of the UN Charter would leave for Mali at the end of this month (December) for a one year period. The contingent is made of 16 Officers and 184 Other Rank personnel drawn from 10 Regiments of the SLA.
