Former Army Commander General Rohan Daluwatte (Retd) passes away

Former Commander of the Army General Rohan Daluwatte (Retd) passed away on Monday (27 August). The late General Daluwatte was 77 at the time of his death at the Military Hospital in Colombo, yesterday. He was the 14th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army.

General Daluwatte had served as the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) during 1999-2000. He also served the Kotelawala Defence University as its Chancellor. He was also one time Sri Lanka's envoy to Brazil.

Born in 1941, General Daluwatte studied at Pannipitiya Dharmapala Vidyalaya, and later joined Ananda College in Colombo. He joined the Army as cadet officer in 1961.

His remains are now lying at 410/104, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 07.
