Land used by Army in Jaffna handed over to legitimate owners

[June 30 2016]

A total of 701.3 acres of land used by the Sri Lanka Army were handed over to the legitimate owners under the government's long running resettlement project.

Accordingly, 201.3 Acres of land in Kurumbasiddy, Varuthalaivilan and Kadduvan Grama Niladhari Divisions in Valikamam North belonging to Tellippalai Divisional Secretariat area adjoining to the Palaly Army Cantonment were handed over during the ceremony. Governor of the Northern Province Hon. Reginald Cooray and Secretary to the Ministry of Defence Eng. Karunasena Hettiarachchi officially handed over the lands in a ceremony held in Kankesanturai on 25th June 2016.

Secretary to the Ministry of Prison Reforms, Rehabilitation, Resettlement and Hindu Religious Affairs Mr. V. Sivagnanasothy, tri forces commanders, officials of the MoD, District Secretariat Jaffna, Commander Security Force Jaffna, senior government officials and senior tri forces officers were also present at the occasion.
