Navy Marines leave for RIMPAC- 2018
[June 05 2018]
A group of 25 personnel of the Sri Lanka Marines left
the country in May (21) to attend the 'Rim of the Pacific' (RIMPAC) -
2018 maritime exercise in Australia. According to Navy media, this is
the first time that a SL Navy Marine team is attending the exercise.
Organized by the US Navy RIMPAC- 2018, RIMPAC is one
of the largest exercises of this nature in the world.
The biennial Rim of the Pacific exercise is scheduled
to be held from 28 June to 04 August, in the Hawaiian Islands.
With the theme, "Capable, Adaptive, Partners", RIMPAC-
2018 will see participating nations and forces exercise a wide range of
capabilities and demonstrate the inherent flexibility of maritime
forces. These capabilities range from disaster relief and maritime
security operations and counter-piracy operations, mine clearance
operations, explosive ordnance disposal, and diving and salvage
It is expected that such joint naval exercises would
enable to strengthen mutual partnerships with other marine forces and
enhance the capacities of the young SLN Marine Battalion.
