Navy installs Water Treatment (RO) Plant in Polpithigama

Sri Lanka Navy had installed another water treatment
(RO) plant under its community welfare project at Koruwewa Mahanama Maha
Vidyalaya in Polpithigama. The RO plant will fulfill the drinking water
requirements of the children of the school and the area residents.
The RO plant, built with the expertise of the Navy's
Research and Development unit with sponsorship of Firefly Mission of
Singapore Institute will benefit the area residents where already 45
renal disease patients have been identified. Water purified through this
plant will supply pure drinking water to over 850 students and 250
families in the area. So far the Navy has installed 24 such water
treatment plants in areas prone to renal disease around the country.
The RO plant installed at the school was declared open
by Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne on 15th
(September) through online technology.
Members of the Maha Sangha, senior naval officers,
principal and staff of the school and a large number of area residents
were present at the occasion.
