Navy renovates Sebamalai Matha Church in Iranathivu

The renovated Sebamalai Matha Church in Iranathivu island in the Northern region was vested on the public during a ceremony on Saturday (27 October). According to Navy media, the renovation work was carried out by Naval Civil Engineers, with a cost of of Rs. 1,117,543.15, allocated by the Sri Lanka Navy Buddhist Association.

The opening ceremony of the church was presided over by the Bishop to the Diocese of Jaffna, Dr. Justin B. Gnanapragasam. A special mass was also held to mark the reopening of this place of worship.

The renovation work was done under a directive of the Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Sirimevan Ranasinghe. Navy's part in the renovation work was praised by the large number of people present at the ceremony.

A number of religious dignitaries and senior Navy officers were also present at the occasion.
