New Navy Boat Service at Diyawanna Lake
Subsequent to the openings of Board Walk
Restaurant and the Floating Restaurant, a boat service was
ceremonially launched at Diyavanna Lake by Speaker of the
Parliament, Hon. Chamal Rajapaksa at the invitation of the Secretary
Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa yesterday
evening (6th February).
In addition to the joy of paddle boat rides,
visitors would be able to enjoy the thrilling experience of speed
boat rides in the Diyawanna Lake. This new facility would entice
more crowds to the popular venue.
Three lagoon crafts built by the Navy's Inshore
Patrol Craft Construction Project have been deployed for this
service. Each craft is powered by two 115 hp OBMs and has seating
facilities for 25 persons. A number of safety features have been
made available onboard including life belts, life jackets and also
the services of qualified life savers and medical personnel to
ensure passenger safety.
The boat service will be open for public daily
between 8.00 am to 6.00 pm. A concessionary rate of Rs. 50.00 will
be charged from students for individual rides while a full package
ride will be available for Rs. 2,500.00.
The combined efforts of the Urban Development
Authority, Land Reclamation Department and Sri Lanka Navy have
transformed the banks of Diyawanna Lake into an eye-catching
hotspot.
Hon. Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Members of
Parliament, Defence Ministry Officials including the Military
Liaison Officer, Chief of National Intelligence, Commander of the
Navy, Officials of the Urban Development Authority, State officials
and a large gathering was present at the ceremony.
