New vessel for Navy fleet arrives in Colombo

The P 625 vessel taken over from the People's Republic of China on 05th June 2019, for the Sri Lanka Navy, arrived in Colombo on Monday (08th July 2019). According to Navy media, the vessel was accorded a traditional welcome by the Sri Lanka Navy upon its arrival at the Colombo harbor.

Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka, H.E. Mr. Cheng Xueyuan and Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Piyal De Silva were present at the receiving ceremony.

The 112m long and 12.4m wide vessel has been built in 1994. The Navy intends to utilize the vessel for patrol and surveillance missions in deep seas around the country. It will also be used for search and rescue operations and provide security and assistance to the fishing community. The ship will receive its commission in the near future.
