New house for a “Ranaviru Real Star”
Lance Corporal Jagath Kumara who won the 6th place in “Ranaviru Real Star”
(RRS) Mission II received a new house at a function held at Rasnayakapura in Nikaweratiya
yesterday (04th March).
Secretary Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa, with the presence of Chairperson of MoD Seva Vanitha Unit Mrs. Ioma Rajapaksa handed over the keys of the new hose named “Dividiri” to the singing star amidst the blessings of
the Maha Sanga.
The house was constructed by the MoD Seva Vanitha Unit under the supervision of its chairperson and directives of the Secretary Defence.
Speaking at the event Secretary Defence said that His Excellency the President Mahinda Rajapaksa
is highly concerned of the welfare of the war heroes and gives priority for
programmes that are carried out to uplift their living standards. He also stated that more than 5000 houses, were built with the assistance of Tri Forces, Civil Defence Force, Police and other institutions.
He also said that special schools and scholarship programmes have
been launched for the benefit of the children of war heroes. He also said that retired war heroes
are given employment in organizations like Rakna Arakshaka Lanka and wellness resorts like Abimansala and Mihindu Seth Medura
have been established to care for the dependent War Heroes.
Secretary Defence said that all welfare projects are carried out in order to pay tribute to the war heroes who took part to eliminate terrorism from the country. Concluding his speech he said that programmes like RRS were introduced to
bring out the hidden talents and capabilities of the war heroes.
Secretary Defence also planted a mango sapling to mark the occasion.
A musical progamme was also held at the end of the function with the
participation of Ranaviru Real Stars.
Vice President of MoD SVU Mrs. Indu Rathnayaka, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Roshan Gunathilaka,
Director General of the Media Center for National Security Mr. Laxman Hullugalle, Commander of the Navy Vice Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Harsha Abewickrama, senior tri forces officers, Chairpersons of tri services Seva Vanitha Units,
members of the panel of judges of RRS, family members of the house recipient and a large number of people in the area were present at the occasion.
