Pakistan Army chief arrives to the country

The Chief of Army Staff of the Pakistan Army (COAS), General Qamar Javed Bajwa, arrived in Sri Lanka on Monday (15th January). According to Army media, the Pakistani Army chief is making the three-day visit to the island on an invitation extended by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Mahesh Senanayake.

During his stay in the island, General Qamar Javed Bajwa is expected to call on the President, Prime Minister, State Minister of Defence, Secretary to the Ministry of Defence, CDS and Navy and Air Force chiefs.

Qamar Javed Bajwa, Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) was born in Karachi on 11 November 1960. He was commissioned in Baloch Regiment (Infantry) on 24 Oct 1980. He is a Staff Course graduate of the Canadian Force Command and Staff College, Toronto and holds a Master's Degree in War Studies from the National Defence University, Islamabad. He assumed office as the Chief of Army Staff in November last year (2016).
