Pakistan Chief of Naval Staff graces Navy Passing Out in Trincomalee
Chief of the Naval Staff - Pakistan Navy, Admiral
Muhammad Zakaullah attended as the chief guest of the Passing Out of
Midshipmen belonging to the 30th (Technical and IT) and 31st intakes of
General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU), 55th Cadet Entry
and candidates of the 01/2016 Service Entry, held at the parade ground
of the Naval and Maritime Academy in Trincomalee on Sunday (11th June).
Admiral Zakaulla attended the event at the invitation of the Commander
of the Navy Vice Admiral Ravindra Wijegunaratne.
According to Navy media sources, Admiral Muhammad
Zakaullah arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday (10th June) making an
official visit. He is accompanied by the Principal Secretary to the
Chief of the Naval Staff, Commodore Javaid Iqbal and Commandant Pakistan
Naval Academy, Commodore Adnan Ahmed on his visit.
During his visit to Navy's Trincomalee facility the
Pakistani Naval chief declared open the Sailing Club of the Naval and
Maritime Academy. The Sailing Club has been dedicated to the memory of
late Commander Bahar who paid supreme sacrifice in 1986 during a raid on
a terrorist hideout at Ichchantivu, Trincomalee. He had represented Sri
Lanka Navy in rowing, sailing and was awarded Navy Colours for musketry.
Incidentally, Admiral Zakaullah is also a renowned yachtsman who has won
accolades at international events.
Admiral Zakaullah also visited the temple of the tooth
and the National Museum in Kandy on Sunday morning.
After joining the Pakistan Navy in 1975, Admiral
Muhammad Zakaullah was commissioned in the Operations Branch in 1978. He
specialized as a Principal Warfare Officer from UK and Navigation and
Direction Officer from Pakistan. He assumed office as the Chief of the
Naval Staff - Pakistan Navy in 2014.
